A brand-new Ad Buttons release

Written by Nico on August 11, 2009 – 3:15 am -

I’ve just uploaded a new Ad Buttons release to the wordpress.org plugin repository. This time it’s more than only some bug fixes. I have incorporated Google AdSense ads into the Ad Buttons plugin. You can now select to show an AdSense 125 x 125 ad unit right alongside the ad buttons. Clicks and views for the AdSense ads are not tracked by the Ad Buttons plugin, but you can create a custom channel in your AdSense account to see the detailed stats of the AdSense button.

AdSense ad colors can be changed right on the Ad Buttons settings page and an ad preview is shown for your convenience.

Hi, great plugin and simple to use. Is there any way (simple, just for me!) that I can place equal margin between the horizontal columns if I have say, 2,4,6,8..
125 x 125 images in the sidebar? Just to even things up a little. Thank You and well done!

    E.

Eddie, if you have upgraded the plugin to the latest release you will find two new fields on the settings page that let you control the layout of your ads. Sounds to me like that’s exactly what you where looking for.

Hi. This is a great plugin. I have a question though. When pasting my affiliate link url, which is an https:// link, the plugin adds an http:// prefix; hence, causing an error in the pageload. I took out the “s”, but now wonder whether the link is pointing properly… Is there a way to keep the link as provided (meaning, as an https?). Thanks.

  4. Nico Says:

Marixi, I have just added support for https links. Please upgrade to version 1.6.3

    Thanks Nico!!!!

    Hey Nico,
None of the jpgs & gifs that come with your plugin are loading in the wordpress CMS. My ad is displaying fine (great plugin, btw!), just no icons or stats graphics etc on the backend. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Think I figured it out… had to update the @ab_plugindir line to include the sub dir for the blog files. $ab_plugindir = get_option(‘home’).’/blog/’.PLUGINDIR.’/’.dirname(plugin_basename(__FILE__));

  8. Nico Says:

That is strange, the ab_plugin variable should already contain your /blog directory. Did you set up things correctly under settings -> general, the “WordPress address (URL)” and “Blog address (URL)” should be filled correctly if you are running your wordpress install in a specific directory.

Fantastic plugin! I have a question about the Adsense option. If we want to track a channel, I assume we enter the channel number. I’ve done this and cannot get the adsense ad to show. I tried with name of channel and then number. Do we need to enter quotes in front of the number or ??

Trying to troubleshoot why I’m not seeing the adsense block. :)

Thank you for creating this plugin. It was needed!

  10. Nico Says:

The Adsense channel is the number you can see in your adsense account (10 digits) Also make sure that you have filled in your publisher ID correctly, it should start with pub-

If you are adding Adsense ads to your site for the first time, it can take a little while before anything actually shows up since Google has to look for relevant ads first. What’s the url to your blog? I can take a quick peek in your page source to check if everything looks good.

  11. LJ Says:

Thanks Nico. I have the publisher id correct and the channel is the 10 digit number.

I’ve used Adsense for years and have another Adsense block running on the site so I’m not sure what the issue is.

When I view source I don’t see the code for Adsense in that area. I thought I might have set the width for the button area too wide for my sidebar, but tweaked that and still no luck.

I don’t want to post a link…let me mess with it a little bit more and I’ll get back to you. Thanks for the speedy response!

  12. Nico Says:

Since you don’t see the adsense code in the source of your page, my best guess is that you forgot to tick the ‘enable AdSense’ checkbox. With the adsense ads enabled you should also be able to see an adsense ad in the preview box at the very bottom of the settings page.

  13. LJ Says:

Nico…I figured it out. I was trying to have only the “your ad here” block and Adsense. That doesn’t work. But when I put in a regular ad block and adsense and the your ad here…worked perfectly.

Thank you for all your help. I love this plugin. :)
