Scheduling ads with Ad Buttons
Written by Nico on August 17, 2009 – 3:12 am -My Ad Buttons wordpress plugin just got a little better again. After a few updates that didn’t really add any new functionality, I’ve just released version 1.4.0 which now allows scheduling of the individual ads.
Ad scheduling is simply done by specifying a start and end date for the ad. When filled in, the ad will show in your admin panel with the appropriate status: scheduled, active or expired. I’ve received quite a few questions about ad scheduling, so there you have it!
To support scheduling, a few new fields had to be added to the database. They should be automatically added when you run the automatic upgrade process. If you want to update the plugin manually, make sure you disable and then re-enable it in your wordpress admin panel to make sure the database is updated for your installation.

I really like to use your plugin in the future. Can you add a follow/nofollow option for the ads?
August 17th, 2009 at 9:56 am
That should be quite easy to add. Keep a look out for the next release, I will add your request!

Wow that was fast! Great job! How about an option for styling ads? Like adding some borders.

This sounds like it will be a big time saver. Do you also have a version for regular content sites. I receive more visitors there than at my blog right now.
August 21st, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Sorry Keith, it’s purely a wordpress plugin. You could, however, change your regular content site to run on wordpress…

Thanks for the plugin. My problem is that when I add the add button to the side it drops everything to the bottom of the page.
August 23rd, 2009 at 11:13 pm
Andre, I’ve seen this problem before and even have the same issue on one of my own blogs. It seems to be related to the specific wordpress theme you are using on your blog.
To fix things on my blog, I manually removed the css styling from the Ad Buttons plugin. Any upgrades to the plugin will put these right back in however. I will add the option to skip the css styling into the settings page, look out for an update later today!

I installed your plugin and would like to use it, but don’t see a link to it’s administration page. I am a newbie on word press but all my other plugins installed and then gave me a place to use them. HELP!

Laurie,
After installing the plugin, you will find an ‘Ad Buttons’ menu at the bottom of the left hand menu on the wordpress admin pages.

How do I add the ads in ad button?
When I go to the widgets and see the ad button, there is no place to put the ad info in?
Where? How?
August 31st, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Connie, after the plugin has been installed, you can find a new menu item on the lower left on your wordpress admin panel. A lot of people have trouble finding it, I might add a link to it in the widget. Looking at your website, I guess you have already found it!

First off, thanks for the plug in. Love it. One future request I’d like to make is that if I leave the Title box empty in the widget admin, I’d like the sidebar widget to print no header rather than defaulting to “Sponsored Links.”
September 5th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Jeff, thanks for the kind words!
If you don’t want the widget to show a title, you can simply put a single ’space’ into the title field of the sidebar widget.

I tried to ad your Ad Block Plugin TWICE.
Both times it activated but FAILED to show on my blog screen.
When you get it right, let me know…..

Doug, did you add the sidebar widget? After activating the Ad Buttons plugin, you have to go to appearance -> widgets to add the plugin to your sidebar.

Great plug in. Thanks.
I have about 20 word press blogs and they continue needing updating with articles and content. I take it I can cycle through with these now?

Hey Nice Plugin
Would it be possbile to make ads in other sizes…like 125 width…but longer as needed? Say up to 600? Maybe at nice way to adjust this in admin.
Thanks.

I love your plugin. Works great!! I would love to use it to post a banner ad above my header – can I do that? If so, can you give me some quick instructions?! Would be very much appreciated. Thanks.. Stacy

HI Nico,
I thought i’d found the answer when i was reading Doug’s post above but evidently not.
when i click on ad block on the in the lower left the dashboard screen reloads like its gonna present me with the panel but it is totally blank. I went to widgets and postioned ad block where i wanted it and still get a blank page when i hit ad block from the menu. What am i doing wrong? I’m using an artisteer created template and have had no issues with it as yet. the other ad i have on my page are just from using text boxes. Thanks for you help!

Henrik, you can show any size ads with the plugin, just use the appropriately sized image for your ads
September 10th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Stacy, try adding a call to the ad_buttons function to your template file in the desired location
< ?php ad_buttons(); ?>September 10th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Barbara, are you still having problems with the plugin? When I visit your site I can see the Ad Buttons plugin has been activated and is working. Do you have trouble adding your own ads?
September 12th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Hi Nico, I just have no admin panel. I added the sidebar widget, but when i click on the plugin, there is no admin panel, The page reloads, but its just a blank screen inside the dashboard area where it should be. thus your ad is there in the widget area. I’ve no way to edit anything. and thank you so much for your help.. I posted this on wordpress forum and have gotten no help at all.

By the way, the other ads on my site i created with adding the code to text boxes. I planned to put a teva ad in my first ad block.. thats why the heading says teva. but i cant go further.

First of all I want to make a big compliment for the creator of this plugin. I used Wp125 before, but ad buttons is very user-friendly and has some nice (working) stats:-).
From one of my advertisers i received a question if it’s possible to add a .swf 125×125 banner. I tried, I searched but didn’t find a solution for this. I hope any of you guys can help me!
September 22nd, 2009 at 5:00 am
Ruud, the plugin does not work with .swf files at the moment. I will look into adding this for you!

Hi Nico,
Ad Buttons is such a great tool, thanks!
A little issue: what if I need the ads to show in a certain order, not randomly?
Ciao!
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:47 am
David, the random order of showing the ads is done to assure each ad gets an equal amount of screen time (in case you have more active ads than ad spots on your site)
I have gotten this question before, so I will look into it. A future release will let you control the ad positions
September 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 am
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. Will look forward to that release.
September 23rd, 2009 at 9:01 am
Nico,
The SWF support would be a very nice and unique feature to add. As far as I know no other ad plugin supports those banners
If you need any help, testing, thinking or what so ever just give a shout (Or mail;))

Hi, my add button stoped working and I don’t know the reason why. Everything was ok, i even did the last update. Now I only have the space for it in the left side under anuncios.
see ya
September 23rd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
John, I think you have too many Adsense ads on your site. I think you are only allowed to show 3 Adsense ad units per page, the Ad Buttons one is the 4th one so it doesn’t show. Check your contact page, on there the Ad Buttons Adsense ad is the second one, so it is shown.

Thanks for your very quick feedback. I deleted one post and it was showing again.
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:16 am
I installed your plugin and it does not show up in my wordpress plugin panel. The ‘add new’ section tells me it is installed. Any ideas?
November 3rd, 2009 at 11:39 am
strange… I’ve never had problems like that. Are you sure you are looking at all plugins? After selecting plugins on your wordpress admin panel you might see only a subset of the plugins on your blog. Make sure you’ve selected to view ‘all’ plugins at the top of the page, my best guess is that you are only seeing the ‘active’ plugins at the moment.
